Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Simple Energy Techniques (SET) are fast evolving techniques is a fast-evolving technique based on Energy Psychology. It’s about balancing the good and the bad. Through EFT and SET, it is believed that negative emotions like trauma, stress and anxiety can be reduced.
Everyone goes through bad times. Everyone feels a variety of emotions, both good and bad. And, everyone moves forward. However, despite the fact that we all ‘heal’, bad experiences can leave their mark. The purpose of EFT and SET is to reduce the force of these ‘marks’. For instance, let’s say that you recently lost a loved one. Losing someone can trigger emotions like intense grief, anger, fear, anxiety and sadness. EFT and SET strives to reduce the impact of these emotions. So, the next time you try to conjure the emotions, you’ll notice that they aren’t as intense and draining as they once were.
EFT and SET are based on various theories like acupuncture, psychology and energy medicine. During an EFT and SET session you’ll be asked to focus on something that is giving you pain. You’ll be asked to measure your distress on a scale of 1 to 10. While focusing on this, you’ll be asked to ‘tap’ on the end point’s of the body’s energy meridians. Tapping on the body’s meridian points, as based in acupuncture, can release negative emotions which are trapped by ‘energy blockages’. SET is a modified technique of EFT, that uses tapping consistently while focusing on an intense issue during conversations.
Even though EFT and SET is sometimes referred to as a pseudoscience with regards to clinical psychology, there are definitive studies that report its effectiveness in reducing negative emotions through cognitive, behavioural and energy manipulation techniques.
Negative emotions can lead to Depression and Anxiety as just two examples. EFT and SET can help reduce the risks of developing these symptoms that may lead to Depression and Anxiety through psychological exposure, cognitive restructuring, walking hypnosis and physical relaxation. With their positive results and a growing list of practitioners, EFT and SET are fast becoming popular methods to help lessen negativity that surrounds our daily lives.
